Surprise for Dorathe Catlin!

June 7, 2012

Yesterday, June 6th, staff and agents of Coldwell Banker Gonella Realty gathered in the parking lot of the Merced office to enjoy a delicious lunch offered in appreciation for all of our hard work and dedication – or so we were lead to believe.

In actuality, the lunch was a surprise party to honor Dorathe Catlin – celebrating her 5th anniversary as a mortgage consultant with Coldwell Banker Mortgage!

Coldwell Banker Mortgage  Regional Manager, Paul Wirth, and Regional Vice President, Steve McGough had contacted Loren Gonella one month prior to set up the staging of the charade.  Flyers were sent to all of Gonella Realty for an “Office Appreciation Lunch” with reminders sent a few days before.  To ensure that Dorathe would attend, Loren asked her to present a small speech honoring the manager of our Atwater office.

After giving everyone a few moments to eat and chat, Loren asked Dorathe to come to the front to give her special presentation.  As Dorathe was about to start speaking, her manager, Paul Wirth interrupted stating that he had a little announcement to make beforehand.  He then proceeded to reveal that this lunch was actually sponsored by CB Mortgage in appreciation of Dorathe.  She could not have been more surprised!

Coldwell Banker Gonella Realty would also like to add our congratulations to Mrs. Catlin, as well as our heartfelt appreciation for her partnership.  Here’s to many more years!

Kay Stahl recognized by the National Association of REALTORS®

July 1, 2011

Kay Stahl - June 29th, 2011

Kay Stahl, a Broker/Associate with Coldwell Banker Gonella Realty, was recently recognized by the National Association of REALTORS® for 49 years of service in real estate. We sat down with Kay to ask a few questions about her tenure in the Merced market. Perhaps it is her take on these, as well as her dedication and love of our profession, which have led to her long-term success.

What prompted you to get started in Real Estate?

We were farming, had 4 kids, and times were hard, so I decided to take classes and get a real estate license to help supplement our income.

What is the best piece of advice you received when you were first starting out in the business?

I wanted to start as a part-time agent, when I told Mary Bryant her response was, “You are either full-time or no-time in Real Estate.”

What would you say the three major changes have been to real estate since you started in 1962?

The introduction of technology; the attitude of people; and just the shear growth of the market.

In your opinion, what are the biggest changes you have seen in our local real estate market?

In 1962 there were 20-25 agents in the area, now there 400-500.

Financing was primarily FHA and VA loans.

The average home cost $8,000, and the extreme high end of prices never exceeded $30,000.

If you had one piece of advice to give new agents entering this market what would it be?

Honesty is key. Try to make a friend with every transaction.  This is a person’s life that we are dealing with.

MCAR Charitable Foundation Annual “Feed the Hungry” Auction

June 2, 2011

On May 17th, at the offices of the Merced County Association of REALTORS® (MCAR), Coldwell Banker Gonella Realty, along with Century 21 M & M and Associates, sponsored an auction through MCAR’s charitable foundation to benefit the Salvation Army and the Merced County Food Bank. The auction raised slightly more than $16,000 which will be used to help those in need in our local area.

We each want to express our appreciation to everyone who donated items, all of you who attended, and each of our sponsors. This is a prime example of what can take place when competitors stop competing for a moment and unite to help mankind.
