Kay Stahl recognized by the National Association of REALTORS®
Kay Stahl, a Broker/Associate with Coldwell Banker Gonella Realty, was recently recognized by the National Association of REALTORS® for 49 years of service in real estate. We sat down with Kay to ask a few questions about her tenure in the Merced market. Perhaps it is her take on these, as well as her dedication and love of our profession, which have led to her long-term success.
What prompted you to get started in Real Estate?
We were farming, had 4 kids, and times were hard, so I decided to take classes and get a real estate license to help supplement our income.
What is the best piece of advice you received when you were first starting out in the business?
I wanted to start as a part-time agent, when I told Mary Bryant her response was, “You are either full-time or no-time in Real Estate.”
What would you say the three major changes have been to real estate since you started in 1962?
The introduction of technology; the attitude of people; and just the shear growth of the market.
In your opinion, what are the biggest changes you have seen in our local real estate market?
In 1962 there were 20-25 agents in the area, now there 400-500.
Financing was primarily FHA and VA loans.
The average home cost $8,000, and the extreme high end of prices never exceeded $30,000.
If you had one piece of advice to give new agents entering this market what would it be?
Honesty is key. Try to make a friend with every transaction. This is a person’s life that we are dealing with.
